Welcome to Randolph ILGenWeb!

Welcome to the Randolph County ILGenWeb Project website, my name is Dennis Partridge and presently I am the county coordinator for Randolph County, Illinois. The USGenWeb project is seeking new volunteers to assist it in developing state, county, and town project sites. If you have some spare time and are interested in history and genealogy and like helping others find their ancestors, please let them know. See here for more information!

A County website such as this is made up of many different volunteers who have provided genealogy data, sometime countywide, but most of the time specific to their family research within Randolph county. It is these contributions that have made this county website what it is today. Do you have anything you can contribute? If so please let me know using the contact me at the top right of every page and I'll help get you started on the process.

Randolph County was organized in 1795 out of a part of St. Clair County. It was named in honor of Edmund Randolph, Governor of Virginia. The Northwest Territory was captured from the British near the end of the Revolutionary War by the army of Virginia. Illinois then became, for a brief time, Illinois County, Virginia. Edmund Randolph was Governor of Virginia at the time Virginia ceded the Northwest Territory to the United States. The county's boundaries were last changed in 1827, when land was taken to form Perry County.

Randolph County is surrounded by the counties of Jackson, Monroe, Perry, St. Clair and Washington.
